I was channel surfing last night and I came across the movie "Fatal Attraction". I had forgotten what a terrific movie it was. Great performances by Glen Close and Michael Douglas. I don't remember if it won any Oscars but, if it didn't, it should have.

1987. No nominations that I recall; certainly no winners. Douglas won Best Actor that year, but for "Wall Street." Adult shockers occasionally fare well ("Silence of the Lambs"), but this one didn't. If you liked "Fatal Attraction," you should also enjoy Clint Eastwood's "Play Misty for Me" from 1971...similar premise and equal amount of suspense and blood.

You know, G, occasionally we hit the same note. "Misty" is one of my favorite movies of all time. I still tell the story of seeing the movie as an adolescent w/ two varsity football players and they both ended up in the lobby. A great film. If you want to go further back in the same genre, "Wait Until Dark" was a classic. As good as "Fatal Attraction" was, it didn't come close to "Misty" or "Wait".

It seemed like there was a stream of movies where he played in a dark plot. A Perfect Murder, The Game, Disclosure, and Basic Instinct all come to mind.

Maybe it's about time I finally watched "Fatal Attraction" from start to finish. I've only seen bits and pieces. For the longest time, I had WAY too many people tell me that I should watch it but it was moreso because of the whackos I was dating than because it was a good flick.

Probably not a good sign if people see the interaction with you and a girlfriend and say, "You should see 'Fatal Attraction'", is it?

On a funny side note, one time I was lamenting over a beer with a co-worker (female) over past flings. I made the usual comment about attracting the psychos and she had the most outrageous reply, one that nobody had ever told me before;

"Did it ever occur to you that maybe you turn them psycho?"

Classic. I wasn't sure if I should laugh my ass off or question every relationship I had ever been in. I'm not even sure if she was trying to be funny or serious. Classic response though.

Ditto for "War of the Roses"...also a Michael Douglas flick.

James Brooks the producer talked to comedian Robert Klein and his ex-wife the opera singer Brenda Boozer, about their bitter divorce while he was making the movie. Their story is almost as bad as the movie; except for the double murder part!

How about Body Heat?

"You're not very smart are you? I like that in a man."

I think of that line all the time while I'm reading the football board!

I'll never forget reading a short review of Basic Instinct, it read "Basic Instinct: Basically it stinks"

In homage to Fatal Attraction, phsycho chicks are still known as "Bunny Boilers" in my circle of friends.
