Looks like a pretty good hire. Being a former all-pro NFL WR should help a bit with recruiting.

I like this hire alot. Was a very accomplished receiver, supposedly a very likable guy.
Here's another tidbit, his kid went to Denver Mullen and played with Clint Brewster in 06-07.
Hopefully he's got the knowhow to teach a very young and talented group of receivers trick of the trade. Welcome Coach Watson!

His kid went there, now at Michigan. I would expect him to have a much longer relationship with the HS coaches since he was around alot longer in Colorado than Brewster was. Hopefully it's just a added bonus to a great overall coach though.

Although I wasn't able to pay close attention to the interview, the following items were of particluar interest to me:

- Watson seems to be very good friends with Brew and sounds happy to be here.

- Reusse asked Watson if Brew's enthusiastic personality was for real, and of course Watson said that it is.

- Reusse's comments after the interview ended indicated that he thinks that Watson is a very good hire and there is a possibility that he will stay around for awhile just like he thinks Jeff Horton will not jump ship at the earliest opportunity.

- Similar to Reusse's interview with Brewster, after Watson's interview ended Reusse's supporting cast started making jokes about Gopher football and Reusse again said that he doesn't want to get into that kind of thing. Reusse said something to the effect that KSTP is trying to become the unofficial radio station for Gopher Sports.

I think so. I don't believe that it was a coincidence that Brew was Reusse's first interview. And I don't believe that it was Reusse's decision. I think KSTP management has identified Gopher fans as a group that they want listening to their radio station.

I would guess the Gopher fan demographic is very good. Many would be college grads with a fair number of post grads - docs, lawyers, dentists, etc. Easy pickings for KSTP as KFAN has dropped the ball.

I've already listened to KSTP way more than I ever listened to KBARF. I would LOVE it if they became a more"official" station for all Gopher sports..Patrick has been talking a lot of Tubby stuff too. and surprisingly quite umm objective actually. I thought the Watson interview was quite insightful, especially about why he likes coaching at the College level as opposed to the pro's and how he thinks this program is about to turn the corner (of course, what ELSE could he say). Anyway, I like being able to listen to these...I have yet to find out if they have an internet site where you can pull these sound bites up and listen to them though. Anybody know?
