Now that most conferences are starting competition within the conferences, cupcakes get to meet cupcakes. Since last week, eight teams got their first Division I win of the season:
Pepperdine beat Coppin State on 12/29 in the "Battle of the No-Wins" and then Coppin State beat George Washington the next night
Southern University beat Texas Southern on Saturday -- then Texas Southern won tonight against Alcorn State for their first win.
Winthrop beat Liberty (59-57) at home on Saturday.
Prairie View A&M also beat Alcorn State on Saturday.
Loyola Marymount beat Cal State-Bakersfield but only after losing to Seattle in a 39-49 showing.
Houston Baptist will invite Howard back any old time, beating them 69-59 on New Year's Eve in their third back-to-back game.
Here's the list of the seven remaining teams still searching for their first Division I win (listed in order of today's RPI per CollegeRPI.com).
• Mississippi Valley State 0-14 (295 RPI, was 264) - SWAC. Lost handily at UA-Pine Bluff (which is only 2-10 and just left the list a couple of weeks ago). Plays Alabama A&M and then Alabama State Friday and Sunday, so they've got a chance.
• Eastern Michigan 0-13 (308 from 297) - MAC Predictably lost to Illinois-Chicago last week. Plays Temple, Ball State and Central Michigan next week. • Alcorn State 0-11 (was 328, now 340) - SWAC. The team everyone wants to see if they're searching for a win!
• NCCU 0-16 (332 from 340) - Independent (No Conference)
• UNC Greensboro 0-10 (slipped further to 333, was 321) - Southern Lost to Akron and Princeton. Play Appalachian State and Western Carolina this week.
• NJIT 0-14 (336, was 340) - Independent (No Conference).
• Furman 0-9 (342 from 338) - Southern.
