For those who don't like the BTN. ...

now's the time of year when it's at its best. Four games on the BTN tomorrow. Any conference game the rest of the season not on the BTN will appear on CBS, ESPN or ESPN2. In my opinion, any shortcomings the BTN has (there are some) are more than made up for by what happens between now and mid-March. Tomorrow?

11 a.m. -- Ohio State (1-0) at Gophers (0-1)
1 p.m. -- Penn State (1-0) at Bucky (1-0)
3:35 p.m. -- Indiana (0-0) at Iowa (0-1)
6 p.m. -- Michigan State (1-0) at Northwestern (0-1)

and for good measure Sunday. ...

11 a.m. -- Illinois (1-0) at Michigan (0-1)

The BTN deserves a decent grade of B- to B simply because of HD. Their constant self promotion (while showing games) puts the 'mute button' in constant play however. Also their announcing teams are fairly weak IMO. But at this time of the year, all games are at least on TV. MSC would probably be 'better' locally, but for interested viewers across the country, it's a no brainer.

There was a time when all these games would have been on locally on a channel carrying "ESPN Plus". With BTN the HD is a big selling point, because the twin cities are way behind when it comes to HD programming in general and particularly HD sports programming for local teams. In Chicago, every Bulls, Hawks, Cubs, and Sox game is in HD. Here we get a handful of games on FSN-HD and that's it.

Where BTN is better is with non-conference games. Way more non-conference games are on TV thanks to BTN.
