M Carter Question???

I just looked up M Carter on Rivals and this is what it said for his one liner under his name:

"Recorded seven interceptions and 15 pass breakups in first year of football in 2007."

Since I really don't have my ear to the ground on these things I figured I'd ask: Is this really only his second year of football? If so, how was he able to become such a big name on the national scene with only 1 year under his belt (besides being really good)?? Why did he start so late?

1st year on varsity? I can't imagine he is a top prospect in his second year of football.
