Nice leap from unrated.
Only one voter from the Big Ten? What's that all about?

The AP poll ranking will be interesting...
I love how we have 69 more votes than Wisconsin...
And Michigan should surely be ranked.

With two wins and some luck, we could be Top 20 heading into NYE and that Barn Burner against Sparty.
I won't be in attendance, but I'll be disappointed if that place isn't ear-splitting loud. A marquee Big Ten matchup in the Barn - it doesn't get any better than that.

Good comment, two more wins and we should move up if only because some ahead of us will certainly lose. Is it possible that we could get national TV audience for one of our first two league games?

Great 1st post, and as Sour said, welcome to the board!
This is awesome, even though I expected it, seeing it official is so sweet! Louisville really dropped a lot of spots, I'm just glad we beat them when they were #9, hooooo! :)

Looks like no more than 1 coach from each conference. Just from a quick look, so I could be wrong.

Of course not, don't you remember Tubby can't recruit and it is all his fault that Kentucky is losing. 20 years from now the Wildcat fans will still be blaming him.

Actually Kentucky is much improved this season. Tubby's recruit Jodie Meeks leads SEC in scoring at 24 ppg. The new UK coach is having a much better OOC (9-3 preseason) than last year (5-7).
Tubby's recruits Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson, and Michael Porter also start for UK. Harris is just coming back from injury.
But U R correct. Anything good happens, it's Gillispie. Anything bad happens, it's Tubby.

The same can be said for here. I read many posts talking about the OTS vs. Monson comparison. It's human nature. People gave no credit to Ty Willingham (his unfortunate situation at Washington with constant injuries at key positions, a bad defense and a refusal to water down his OOC schedule only made it worse) for Weiss' early successes and all the blame for his failures; some of which was warranted.
Of course that doesn't fit your agenda so it'll probably fall on deaf ears.

Don't compare the good fans of Minnesota with the idiots in Kentucky. I've seen ZERO posts comparing Monson and Tubby. I've seen plenty of credit (where due) given to Monson, and fair criticism (where due) of him.

I'm trying to offer an unbiased point of view from what you will get from FoT. Plus, I enjoy following Coach Smith at Minnesota and I'm hoping he finds continued success at your outstanding institution.

Closing your eyes and pretending things aren't there don't make them go away. I've seen plenty of "Tubby gets more out of Monson's players than Monson ever did" posts on this forum. I think that's just as foolish as Kentucky fans saying similar things.
The "good fans" of Minnesota have their fair share of yahoo's (Ever been around Vikings fans?) so you can save your usual sweeping condemnations.

I'm glad you're following Tubby's career here at Minnesota.
You'll really have to forgive me to be a bit wary of someone feeling the need to offer an unbiased point of view about Tubby.
And you'll need to provide a much better answer of why you believe it's necessary to do so.

Simply because I don't care to read the rash of half-truths, spin and outright bile that FoT posts at times.
I enjoy your board. You seem to have a nice mix of great posters who are very passionate about your program. What I don't like to read is FoT's constant barrage of demeaning things he says about the people of the Commonwealth or that we're all racist, hillbillies that wanted to lynch OTS because he didn't go to the Final Four every year.
A lot of us were sad to see OTS go but a change was obviously needed for both parties involved. I'm not going to deny that Kentucky fans can be rude, classless and/or downright hateful at times but we can also be gracious, intelligent and thankful. Kentucky basketball means a lot to the people of the Commonwealth and with that passion and love you're always going to have a dark side.

The Truth, I'm not trying to be antagonistic (as I rarely agree on anything with G4L), but simply sticking around our forum to counter every one of FoT's posts is both a waste of your time, and a waste of ours.
Some people enjoy FoT, some don't, as they feel his posts are only directly related to Tubby and nothing about Gopher basketball. However, the board doesn't need another person, with even a lesser relation to Gopher basketball flooding our board with old Kentucky program stats and information.
Reason? We simply don't care. This board is about Gopher basketball, not Kentucky basketball history.

Yet the two are linked now. They were even before OTS. Your program owes a lot to the Commonwealth.
If you went to a Wisconsin board and they were trashing the fine, hard working people of the state of Minnesota would you not be offended? Would you not want to stick up for your state? I think you would.

Hey as a Gopherhole newbie, I feel pretty rotten about launching this thread down a snarky path. My original post was meant to be celebratory of the Goph's first ranking in years. And, I guess at the same time take sarcastic notice of the fact that the Cat's are not ranked. In hindsight, I should have known that sarcasm would not work well on this (or any) board. GopherGod got the sarcasm and responded in kind. I don't think that he really meant that the reason the Cats are unranked is because Tubby is a poor recruiter (correct me if I'm wrong). I think he was merely noting the oddity of the assertion on some of the boards that the Gophers are doing well due to Monson's recruiting, and that the Cat's are doing poorly due to Tubby's recruiting. While there may be specs of truth in that, It leaves Tubby in a no win position which is clearly absurd.
I regret that this comment stream has taken off from that "mean-to-be" sarcastic dig that UK athletic department into casting aspersions of racism on the people of Kentucky. I don't think anyone wants to come to this board for that kind of commentary. I know that I don't. Some of them (and us) probably are racists, but it is way uncool to throw a broad accusation like that anywhere. And its really not the point of a sports fan's web community.

I lived there for 23+ years. Some of them (LOTS MORE than Minnesotans) are racists but many more are idiots. The Smith endured For Sale signs in their yard after losses, a brick thrown through a window after 1 such loss in 2001, and verbal abuse/cursing after an SECT loss in 2002. Does 76% W-L record (72% in NCAA) and 1 NCAA title, 5 SEC titles, and 5 SECT champs warrant such reaction by fans???
They have found a MUCH BETTER opportunity in the Twin Cities. Good for them, good for you.
